Suspected armed bandits have killed an 8-month pregnant health worker along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway.

The deceased identified as Aisha Yusuf was killed while traveling to Kaduna from Birnin Gwari at Zankoro before Unguwar Yako on Sunday, January 24.

It was gathered that the bandits opened fire on a commercial vehicle conveying her and other passengers to Kaduna around noon.

The deceased’s cousin Aliyu Mahmud, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust via phone, described her as a dedicated volunteer health worker in Birnin Gwari community.

“She was eight months pregnant but very hardworking and dedicated to her work at the PHC where she works in Birnin Gwari. Most of the people in this community liked her a lot because of her commitment to work even though she is a volunteer worker,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said Governor El-Rufai has condoled with the husband of the deceased health worker, Malam Musa Kibiya and prayed for the repose of her soul.
